Every #25 stainless steel sprocket we produce is dimensioned directly against ANSI B29.1 standards. Chain pitch is 6.35 mm (1/4 inch), roller diameter 3.30 mm, and inner width 3.18 mm. Available tooth counts range from 9T through 72T to accommodate speed ratios across virtually every conveyor and drive application. Bore options include standard, finished bore with keyway, and taper-lock hub configurations. All surface contact areas are polished to Ra 1.6 µm or better to reduce chain link wear and facilitate washdown cleaning in food-grade environments.

Why Stainless Steel Matters for Roller Chain Sprockets

Carbon steel sprockets can develop surface rust within weeks when exposed to moisture, cleaning agents, or saline air — and that rust transfers grit directly into chain joints, accelerating wear exponentially. Stainless steel eliminates that failure mode entirely. Grade 304 provides robust general corrosion resistance covering the majority of industrial washdown chemicals, while 316 adds molybdenum for superior resistance to chlorides found in marine environments and certain food brines. Beyond corrosion, both grades maintain strength at elevated temperatures up to 870 °C (intermittent), giving engineers confidence in applications with thermal cycling. The low magnetic permeability of austenitic stainless is also valuable in proximity-sensor zones of automated assembly lines.

304 vs. 316 — Choosing the Right Grade

For standard food conveyor and pharmaceutical packaging applications, 304 SS delivers excellent value: it resists most organic acids, alkalis, and detergents at a lower material cost. Upgrade to 316 SS when the operating environment includes saltwater spray (marine decks, offshore platforms), concentrated chloride cleaning solutions, or continuous exposure to acidic food products such as citrus or vinegar brines. When in doubt, specify 316 — the cost differential is small relative to the downtime cost of premature failure.
