Upgrade to 316 SS when the operating environment includes saltwater spray (marine decks, offshore platforms), concentrated chloride cleaning solutions, or continuous exposure to acidic food products such as citrus or vinegar brines. When in doubt, specify 316 — the cost differential is small relative to the downtime cost of premature failure.
