Description
Hangzhou Ever-Power Sprocket Co., Ltd.
Heavy-load chain drives in corrosive environments need a sprocket that handles both demands simultaneously — not a compromise between them.
The Double Engineering Challenge: High Load + Severe Corrosion
Most industrial drives face either a load challenge or a corrosion challenge — rarely both with equal intensity. A fish-processing plant is the exception: the conveyor must carry substantial loads of product, operate under near-continuous high-pressure saltwater and hypochlorite washdown, run through temperature extremes from cold-storage zones to steam-cleaning cycles, and do all of this without contaminating the food product with rust, paint particles, or lubricant drips. Carbon steel sprockets fail this environment within months. Zinc-plated or painted steel sprockets fare only marginally better. The Ever-Power #60 Stainless Steel Sprocket — machined from 316 SS and optionally induction-hardened on the tooth faces only — addresses the mechanical and chemical demands simultaneously without trading one against the other.

Induction Hardening: Surface Strength Without Sacrificing Corrosion Resistance
The conventional approach to hardening steel is through-hardening: heating the entire part and quenching. For stainless steel, through-hardening is problematic because it creates sensitized grain boundaries that are susceptible to intergranular corrosion — exactly the opposite of what is needed. Induction hardening solves this by using an electromagnetic coil to heat only the tooth face surface layer (typically 1–2 mm depth) at very high speed, then quenching locally. The result is a tooth face hardness of HRC 42–48 — sufficient to resist brinelling from chain roller impact — while the core, hub, and disc remain in the softer, fully annealed condition with uncompromised corrosion resistance. This layered approach is the reason induction-hardened stainless sprockets are the specified solution in fish processing, where shock load and chloride environment occur together every working hour.
When to Specify Induction Hardening
Standard annealed 304/316 SS handles light-to-medium loads very well. Specify induction hardening when: (1) the drive is subject to shock or reversing loads — stone crushing, log conveying, heavy-product indexing; (2) the chain speed is high enough that dynamic roller impact forces are significant; or (3) the application is inspected on long maintenance intervals where mid-cycle sprocket replacement would cause costly shutdowns. If your process is a smooth-running, constant-speed conveyor at moderate load, annealed SS is entirely adequate and more cost-effective.

Customer Feedback
“Salmon processing line — 316 SS #60 sprockets replacing Tsubaki carbon units that rusted out in 3 months. Twelve months later, no corrosion, no pitting. The induction-hardened version was worth the extra cost.”
“Aggregate conveyor: IH #60 sprockets running 18 months with no measurable tooth wear. H7 bore tolerance confirmed by our gauges. Excellent product — will continue ordering.”
“Good quality, well-packaged for sea freight. Query about custom hub length was answered within hours. Very responsive team.”
